Gårdagen i brysel, på engelsk
English blog for Monday the second of October
Today were our obligatory all-day visit in Brussels, we all went up at 7am, ate our breakfast and made our take-along sandwiches. After that: line up for briefing and singing, we usually don’t sing at our morning gathering but this day was the captain’s birthday.
To the train station from the boat is quite a distance, and we had 35 minutes to get there by foot, our officers managed to get us there in time without any pupils missing or runned over by cars.
The train voyage to Brussels took about 40 minutes and was quite chaotic thou we first sat down on reserved places, and at the time we understood that we couldn’t sit there the train went crowded, we had to stand the last 20 minutes.
Well in Brussels went we directly to the office of Westsweden, a lobbing company owned and driven by the municipal in western Sweden. We listened to a lecture about the use of a lobbing organization on a regional level, the advantage of cooperation between regions across the national borders.
Afterwards were we dying for some coffee. We had one and a half hour break until the visit at the European Union parliament. I bought a Belgian waffle with a cup of chocolate ice-cream and sat down in a park, it tasted wonderful.
Well at the parliament were we again lectured, this time about the structure of EU. It was very interesting. After had we the chans to go into the big conference hall where the parliament gathers. There were a discussion about person register, but the coolest thing wasn’t really the discussion, it was the skills of the interpreters.
After the visit were we free to do what ever we wanted, it wasn’t easy because we really hadn’t any idea of what to do. After all did we end up in the ancient town. That part of Brussels is very beautiful with it’s old magnificent houses, squares and churches. I just walked around in the small alleys and looked for a long time. Then realized I how hungry I really was, I ate spaghetti bolognaise, and it tasted wonderful thou it wasn’t typical Belgian. As desert did we ate a waffle and some test samples of chocolate that you might get if you enter a chocolate store looking like you intending to buy.
At 7.39 pm were we on our way home with the train again, well in Antwerp went we to a café there we drank some hot chocolate and talked through the day. At about 9.40 pm walked we back to Gunilla with tired legs and chaffed feets.
